PINTA Drawing will seek to get acquainted with the drawing practices that have developed in Latin America, Spain and Portugal in recent years as radical forms of expression – not necessarily linked to paper – and that come into contact with other disciplines such as installation, sculpture, video or performance. At present, and more than ever, expanded drawing sheds light on the huge variety of critical approaches of the new artistic practice to this discipline, traditionally informed by painting and writing.


Roc Laseca 
Roc Laseca holds a PhD in Art Theory and Cultural Prospective, and is trained at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the International Semiotics Institute in Helsinki and Universidad de La Laguna, where he was a faculty researcher from 2006 to 2011. He is specially devoted to the study and implementation of peripheral cultural programs engaged with local logics. Some of his most recent curating projects include exhibitions and site-specific programs by Jannis Kounellis, Jesper Just, Magdalena Fernández, Marcius Galan and Alejandro Otero, or the forthcoming first-ever Miami solo exhibition by Carlos Garaicoa, among others. In 2012, he curated the Bill Viola solo exhibition at MOCA North Miami that was critically acclaimed and awarded the New Times Best Museum Exhibit and received a nomination for the AICA-USA Awards.  
Dr. Laseca has lectured and published extensively on peripheral thinking and cultural theory, and has been Visiting Professor at Miami Dade College, University of Lanús, Buenos Aires or Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He is currently an Adviser of the newly created Center for Spanish & Mediterranean Studies at Florida International University and Senior Research Fellow at Milton Becerra Foundation, Paris. Part of his work on contemporary semiotics has been published by the University of Rome Tor Vergata or the Institute of Canarian Studies, among others. Since 2013, he is Director of Los Encuentros Denkbilder, that take place every semester in Tenerife as an experimental workstation for local agents with non-resident interlocutors; and Guest Curator at Saludarte Foundation / Ideobox Artspace where he initiated both Latin Off Latin International Seminar and Uprooting Architecture Exhibition Series, in collaboration with Universidad de Los Andes and the National Media Museum, England.

"Since the early 70s I have worked with the idea of duality, which I have expressed by contrasting the apparent contradictions, in many different ways, even in simple phrases written on panels of exhibition spaces.
 
I started making installations in which I applied paint or suspended lines with cords, directly using the walls and floors of competition spaces, then galleries, offices and residential settings.
 
While using corner spaces, or working within large enclosures, I was playing with the idea of the multiplicity of dimensions. Working with graphics or works on paper, or sculptures and paintings, I could stretch some imagination and circumvent limitations.
 
I like it when viewers often refer to becoming aware of their own presence while contemplating  these ideas, because the realm of the mind is what I really have been aiming at, in trying to reach the deepest of our existence."

The City of Winter Park and the Public Art Advisory Board are pleased to announce the return of Art on the Green, a prestigious exhibition of  Seven sculptures will be on display from Sunday, November 1, 2015, through Tuesday, March 1, 2016, concurrent with park hours. Visitors can begin their outdoor sculpture tour at the Central Park Rose Garden, located near the intersection of Park and New England avenues, or from anywhere in the park. The seven artists are Lydia Azout, Maria Cristina Carbonell, Robert Chambers, Edouard Duval Carrie, Emmett Moore, Cristina Lei Rodriguez and Frances Trombly. Their sculptures, ranging in size, materials, and color, reflect the wide spectrum of approaches that artists are taking today as well as the vitality of artists with roots in Miami who are gaining both national and international recognition. Art on the Green is organized by guest curator Suzanne Delehanty, founding director of the Miami Art Museum.

Maria Cristina Carbonell lives and works in Miami. She is a versatile artist who express her ideas through drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation, and video art. She studied at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and at the Art Student League. Since 1989 Carbonell has exhibited widely in museums and galleries in Caracas, Barcelona, São Paulo, Madrid, México D.F, London, New York, Miami, Taipei, Basel, to name a few.
