The Opera, a Learning Vehicle (LÓVA) is a project conducted by school teachers in their classrooms during an entire academic year. Children form an Opera Company compose an entire Opera, including its name and logo, theme, title, plot, dialogue, and music, as well as other aspects of production, such as costumes, scenery, lighting, etc. Although the creation of a final staged production is a natural goal of the program, more importantly for the students is the essence of teamwork, cooperation and self-esteem, which are essential components of the learning processes of this project. Valuing the importance of creativity in education, providing a space for children to create, and offering the adequate learning tools to overcome for the cognitive, social and emotional development of children, has become the main objective for certain educators that still believe that schools should prepare children for functioning in real life.

Dear Friends,
It is with great emotion that we share with you the 10th anniversary of LÓVA (The Opera as a Learning Vehicle). In 2006, SaludArte Foundation started supporting a new educational model with the aim of improving the teaching methodologies of children and adolescents, making them more participative, more critical and more human. Working as a well-orchestrated team, LÓVA, and the Real Theater of Madrid, makes a dream come true. This dream has been shared by educational centers in more than fifteen Autonomous Communities in Spain, where about 8,000 students have premiered more than 250 operas before some 120,000 spectators, along with 300 teachers who have turned this project into their way of teaching. Nowadays, The European Union has chosen LÓVA as an Spanish educational project of reference to develop the conscience and cultural expression in its Cultural Awareness and Expression Handbook Tanya Capriles de Brillembourg SaludArte Foundation-President |
