World-renowned artists Bill Viola and famous violinist Julian Rachlin come together in one of the year’s most significant performances of Miami Art Week. Viola Meets Mozart is the result of the collaboration of the SaludArte Foundation and MANA Contemporary and will take place on November 29th at MANA Wynwood.
Arguably the most important contemporary video artists of our time, Bill Viola’s work focuses on fundamental human experiences such as birth, death and the different aspects of consciousness. Viola Meets Mozart will feature Inverted Birth, a piece where Viola depicts five stages of awakening through a series of violent transformation and is accompanied by critically acclaimed violinist Julian Rachlin, who together with the PhilarMIA Orchestra will play movements I, II and III of Mozart’s 5th Violin Concerto. Spanish dancer Jesus Pastor will be performing an original choreography in this piece. All this will be performed under the artistic direction of Pablo Mielgo.

Bill Viola is internationally recognized as one of today’s leading artists and is credited as instrumental in the establishment of video as a vital form of contemporary art, helping in the expansion of its scope in terms of technology, content and historical reach. Over the last 27 years, Julian Rachlin has been captivating audiences around the world and it is now considered one of the most exciting and respected musicians around the world. He has collaborated on many animations and with artists such as John Malkovich. Jesus Pastor, the founder of the “Human Dance Project,” is a classically trained dancer with a long-standing career that has taken him around the world. The artistic direction of the piece fell under Pablo Mielgo, who is not only the artistic and music director of the SaludArte Foundation but also the music director and co-artistic director of the Baleares Symphony Orchestra and the Medellin Philharmonic Academy.
